The Charmed Masquerade
"Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth."
- Oscar Wilde
Why a Masquerade?
The book has one! And it is a pivotal moment that sets things in motion for our main character.
The first masked ball dates back to 14th-century France as a wedding celebration and later seeped into Italian culture until it became completely enmeshed with it. A mask creates equality.
Like the book, this event will be a marriage between the old world and the modern. Think of a time of honor and decorum, when life was slower, and speech was dressed with meaning and delicacy. The romance of the past, when the brush of a hand was still precious. Think Pride & Prejudice, Phantom of the Opera.
